Former Chief Justice Roy Moore and the Foundation for Moral Law are pleased to learn that the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) has suspended the license of Reproductive Health Services (RHS) in Montgomery and ordered it to “cease all operation as an abortion or reproductive health center” for its failure to have a physician with admitting privileges at a local hospital, as required by state law. The ADPH emergency order issued on August 14, 2006, stated that the abortion facility's failure to have a physician with local admitting privileges “is not only a violation of State Rules, but also constitutes conduct or practices detrimental to the welfare of the patients of RHS, and constitutes a danger to public health and welfare.” This license suspension comes two months after an abortion clinic, Summit Medical Center, in Birmingham was shut down by the ADPH for numerous violations of state law and public health regulations.
Judge Moore said in response to the license suspension, "While the Foundation for Moral Law strongly opposes abortion, we have found that even the minimum regulations for abortion clinics have not been enforced. We are pleased that the Alabama Department of Public Health has taken some action with yesterday's license suspension of the abortion clinic in Montgomery, and the closure of the clinic in Birmingham after the tragic death of a young baby and the traumatic injury to the mother for false and misleading information and improper medical treatment. As a result of the meeting we had on August 8, 2006, we are hopeful that the Department will adopt more stringent policies that we are suggesting at their request.”
