Of gays and Muslims: Obama’s pride and prejudice

Monday, June 1, was a busy day for Barack Hussein Obama.

First, he proclaimed June (http://www NULL.whitehouse NULL.gov/the_press_office/Presidential-Proclamation-LGBT-Pride-Month/) as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.”  Obama noted that he was “proud to be the first President to appoint openly LGBT candidates to Senate-confirmed positions in the first 100 days of an Administration.”  And he promised some change that homosexual radicals can believe in: “enhancing hate crimes laws, supporting civil unions and Federal rights for LGBT couples, outlawing discrimination in the workplace, ensuring adoption rights, and ending the existing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy.”

This is certainly the first time a President has issued such a proclamation, let alone a whole month, to celebrate pride in immorality and perversion.  Considering that the National Day of Prayer got one day in May—and that was required by law (http://www NULL.whitehouse NULL.gov/the_press_office/Presidential-Proclamation-National-Day-of-Prayer/)—it shows where Obama’s pride and priorities lie.

Our first President, George Washington, took great pains (not pride) to uphold morality, even when he was General of the Continental Army.  For example, in March of 1778, with “Abhorrence and Detestation of such Infamous Crimes” as attempted sodomy and perjury, Washington ordered (http://memory NULL.loc NULL.gov/cgi-bin/query/r?ammem/mgw: null@null field(DOCID+ null@null lit(gw110081))#N0120-131) a lieutenant to be “dismiss’d [from] the service with Infamy” and “to be drummed out of Camp .  . . by all the Drummers and Fifers in the Army never to return.”

Apparently Obama would have thrown a “coming out” party for this disgraced soldier.

Designating a month for “Gay Pride” is hardly fitting for a President of the United States, especially in a “Muslim country” such as ours.

Muslim country?  Yes, that’s right.  One of the largest, in fact, according to Obama. On the same day as the LGBT Pride proclamation, Obama had this to say to a French reporter (http://www NULL.whitehouse NULL.gov/the_press_office/Transcript-of-the-Interview-of-the-President-by-Laura-Haim-Canal-Plus-6-1-09/):

And one of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the number of Muslims Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.

Obama said he is trying to “create a better dialogue so that the Muslim world understands more effectively” the United States and the Western world.  This interview was on the cusp of another trip to the Middle East during which he hopes to “remake relations between the United States and countries in the Muslim world.”  Indeed.

I suppose recasting America as a “Muslim country” is a politically convenient way to “remake relations” with the Muslim world, since radical Islamists want to conquer us and turn us all into Muslims.  Call this the Neville Chamberlain appeasement strategy in the War on Terror.

Besides being statistically inaccurate—as the UK’s Telegraph demonstrates (http://blogs NULL.telegraph NULL.co NULL.uk/toby_harnden/blog/2009/06/03/barack_hussein_obama_us_one_of_the_largest_muslim_countries_in_the_world), we have probably more like the 34th to 48th highest Muslim population in the world—Obama’s statement is just the opposite of what he said in Turkey in April when he was trying to downplay America’s Christian roots.  At a press conference with the Turkish Prime Minister, Obama said (http://www NULL.youtube NULL.com/watch?v=QIVd7YT0oWA&feature=related):

One of the great strengths of the United States is, although as I’ve mentioned we have a very large Christian population, we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.

In less than two months, Obama has gone from denying that we consider ourselves a Christian nation, despite our “large” Christian population (76%, in fact (http://www NULL.washingtonpost NULL.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/08/AR2009030801967 NULL.html?hpid=topnews)), to calling America a “Muslim country” because of the number of Muslims here.  Huh?

When people propose or oppose the idea that America is a “Christian nation,” they often mean different things.  One way America is a “Christian nation” is that, regardless of its present population, its foundational principles of government, human rights, human fallibility, and liberty were and still are based on Christian principles. Another and different way America is considered a “Christian nation” is by the demographic numbers, in that our people have always and still do self-identify their religion as Christian of some stripe. Usually people argue over the first meaning of the word (Christian foundational principles), as the second meaning (a majority Christian population) is historically and presently irrefutable. Until Obama started playing his name-change game, that is.

Even based on how Obama is using the terms “Christian nation” or “Muslim country” in June (not April) to refer to religious demographics, America is in fact much more a Christian nation and even more a Jewish nation (1.2% of the population) than a Muslim-peopled (0.6% (http://www NULL.washingtonpost NULL.com/wp-srv/metro/documents/aris030609 NULL.pdf?sid=ST2009030900856)) nation. Now matter how he uses the term, he’s wrong.

But that’s precisely the problem here: Obama is using the terms in the most politically and geographically advantageous way he can.  Obama was clearly doing some diplomatic kissing-up before his trip to Muslim countries, and is more than willing to alienate the “large Christian population” in order to “remake” our his relations with the Muslim world.

Obama’s forked-tongued attempts to appease both the homosexual activists and the Muslim world are impressive but ultimately limited: ironically, that same Muslim world would not approve of his LGBT Pride proclamation, so at some point his chameleonic efforts to become all things to all people so that he might deceive everyone will have to give way to reality. For instance, now that we’re a “Muslim country” Obama should try his hand at promoting “LGBT Pride Month” over in the Middle East and see how well it goes over.

Obama’s gay pride and Muslim prejudice may endear him to radical elements of domestic and foreign societies, but his cynical selling-out of America’s traditional morality and national identity shows that he lacks both sense and sensibility.
