PRESS RELEASE;
On Wednesday 26 June, 2013 the United States Supreme Court released opinions in United States v. Windsor, Executor of the Estate of Spyer Et.Al. and Hollingsworth Et.Al. v. Perry Et.Al., two cases involving same sex marriage.
Kayla Moore, President of the Foundation for Moral Law located in Montgomery, Alabama, and wife of Roy Moore, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama stated;
“In declaring that DOMA, Defense of Marriage Act,” is unconstitutional, the United States Supreme Court not only struck down a 1996 Act of Congress, but also disregarded hundreds of years of history of western civilization. The Court has taken upon itself to refute our history, our law, and our faith and this is wrong! The Court left unsettled the validity of state laws, like our law here in Alabama, by failing to address the issues in Proposition 8, California’s Constitutional Amendment, which declares marriage as between one man and one woman. The Court simply said that petitioners lacked “standing” to bring the action before the Court, and avoided addressing the issue altogether.
We will continue to recognize traditional marriage in Alabama so that in itself is a victory. We at the Foundation for Moral Law will continue to recognize the truth that marriage is an ordination of God and is defined as the union of one man and one woman.”
