“Would Jesus Really Say That?”

Whenever something worthwhile circulates on the internet, about a dozen people will take it upon themselves to send me a copy. One recent submission is titled “Letter from Jesus about Christmas.”

The writer suggests that if Jesus were to write a letter to us about Christmas, He would urge us to redirect our priorities. Among other things, “Jesus” tells us:

“I don’t care what y ou call the day. If you want to celebrate My birth, just GET ALONG AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER. …

“If it bothers you that the town in which you live doesn’t allow a scene depicting My birth, then just get rid of a couple of Santas and snowmen and put in a small Nativity scene on your own front lawn. If all My followers did that there wouldn’t be any need for such a scene on the town square because there would be many of them all around town. ..

“Instead of writing protest letters objecting to the way My birthday is being celebrated, write letters of love and hope to soldiers away from home. They are terribly afraid and lonely this time of year. I know, they tell me all the time. …

“Instead of writing the President complaining about the wording on the cards his staff sent out this year, why don’t you write and tell him that you’ll be praying for him and his family this year. Then follow up … it will be nice hearing from you again. …

“Instead of nit picking about what the retailer in your town calls the holiday, be patient with the people who work there. Give them a warm smile and a kind word. Even if they aren’t allowed to wish you a ‘Merry Christmas’ that doesn’t keep you from wishing them one. Then stop shopping there on Sunday. If the store didn’t make so much money on that day they’d close and let their employees spend the day at home with their families. …

“Don’t forget; I am God and can take care of Myself. Just love Me and do what I have told you to do. I’ll take care of all the rest. …”

At first I couldn’t put my finger on what I found troubling in this “letter.” Certainly I support doing everything the letter tells me to do.

Then it hit me: The writer of this letter has no idea why many of us object to the secularization of the public square.

God has established two kingdoms in this world, the Church which has authority over only believers, and the State which has authority over both believers and unbelievers. Each kingdom has its own distinctive function, the Church to lead souls to Christ and nurture them to Christian maturity, and the State to preserve law and order and protect our God-given rights. But both kingdoms derive their authority from God, both are subject to God, and both are commissioned to do God’s will. The State is separate from the Church, but that doesn’t mean the State must be hostile to, or even indifferent toward, the Church.

I object to the removal of manger scenes from the public square, not so much because without them there would be too few manger scenes in our community, but because the State should not be prohibited from recognizing the birth of Christ, the most significant and world-changing event in all history. I really don’t particularly care whether store clerks wish me a Merry Christmas, but I vigorously object to store managers censoring their employees’ speech by ordering them not to wish me a Merry Christmas. The President’s Christmas cards, if I may call them that, would be of less concern to me if they were not part of a lengthy litany of words and actions denigrating America’s Christian heritage (http://morallaw NULL.org/blog/?p=786) and kowtowing to Islam (http://morallaw NULL.org/blog/?p=823).

My concern is that this sanitation of the public arena by removing all recognition of Christianity is based upon a mistaken understanding of the relationship between the two kingdoms. The two kingdoms are separate, but they are not to be hostile toward one another. As U.S. Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story wrote (http://press-pubs NULL.uchicago NULL.edu/founders/documents/amendI_religions69 NULL.html) in 1833, “Probably at the time of the adoption of the Constitution, and of the [First] Amendment…, the general, if not the universal sentiment was, that Christianity ought to receive encouragement from the state, so far as was not incompatible with the private rights of conscience and the freedom of religious worship. An attempt to level all religions, and to make it a matter of stat policy to hold all in utter indifference, would have created universal disapprobation, if not universal indignation.”

And so, while this “letter from Jesus” is a good reminder to be good witnesses in our private lives, it should not dissuade us from fighting the culture war.

  1. James E. Reeves says:

Recently our Sunday School Lesson at church dealt with the issue entitled ” Why Did Jesus Come? So as I thought of theological answers to nail down my best Christ-o-centric
view of Jewish prophesy in Messianic scriptures, I kept hearing the answer my wife gave the day before when I asked her the same question.
“He came for me!” How simple and I thought how selfish, but then she said if everyone accepted Him personally like that our world would be better wouldn’t it?
All the fulfillment of prophesy books completed works of art, temples built , pilgrimages made, or land and governments conquered will never mean more than a personal relationship with GOD. Know (JESUS) proclaim him for yourself.

  2. Linda Templet says:

Ben let me help you out a bit. Let me put my finger onthe thing that is troubling to me. It is a word called ignorant. Our forefathers set up a form of a holy nation in the beginning and visioned it to be heaven on earth. Just like the prayer Jesus taught his disciples to pray Luke 11:2:
“Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, AS IN HEAVEN–SO IN EARTH…”
This is what our forefathers set out to do. They were building Gods kingdom on earth.
God only set up One kingdom–a Righteous kingdom in which his Righteous Spirit has complete authority over all spirits whether they be heavenly spirits or earthly spirits. The heavenly spirits will take over the earthly spirits.

Spirit is the thinking, feeling, motivating part of man. If we think Godly–then we feel Godly–and that feeling motivates us to be Godly.

Now the atheists think there is no God–so they feel no god–and this feeling motivates them to do everthing in their power to remove God out of sight–out of mind.
They are so motivated that they have succeeded in taking prayer out of school–out of sight–out of mind. They want God taken out of the Pledge of Allegience, out of sight out of mind. They want “In God we trust out of sight–out of mind. They want NO MANGER SCENES reminding them of God or Jesus, out of sight out of mind. The want “So help me God” removed from the oaths of office out of sight out of mind.

God stays alive in conscience–they want this God completely taken out of the consciences of the public square. So according to this lady, we are suppose just love them trying to take Gods name out of the sight and minds of our children while our children are roaming the streets. Just maybe the sight of the Ten Commandments would stop a child from stealing–Thou shalt not steal–This would remind their conscience hey I better not take this or I’m going to be in trouble with the LAW. I don’t hate the person–I hate their spirit of removing the signs of righteousness.

While the atheists are succeeding to remove Gods Name or righteousness out of our countries sight and mind the homosexuals have moved in now and are doing the same thing but in a different way. They want homosexuality to be in the sight and mind of everyone in this country. The more people see it–the more they thinks about it–this motivates their conscience to want it in America. Its working!! We have more homosexuals than ever in our country. WHY? Becaise it is put in the sight of our children so it can enter into their minds to want it. Simple as that. The art of homosexuality. The science of how sight and hearing affects the motivation of conscience or minds.

Sex on Television, radio, internet and movies–Foul Language–killing innocent
unwanted babies—homosexuality. This is all The ART OF SCIENCE. Peoples thoughts or ideas or CONSCIENCE is protected under our constitution. But there has to be a stopping point somewhere concerning this Science of motivation.

There is an ART to religion that is why religion is forever protected in our country. But the only religion that is protected is the religion that the Almighty God of our country forms for the conscience–not the god of other countries–just the God that is mentioned in our official documents. The God that talks about a heaven and a hell–That God is the God our forefathers conscience. This is SO important in our world today. If Muslems get into to our government–don’t they serve a different God than we do? Do they profess that there is a heaven and a hell. The True Intent of THE FREE EXERCISE OF PROTESTANT RELIGION which is believing in the being of God and that there is a future state of rewards and punishments isthe ART of IN SIGHT-IN MIND–which proves the Science of MOTIVATION.

There is a art to putting up a manger scene. It is to exucute a plan for righteousness or living in a heavenly atmosphere. It is creativeness. It is a creative work that produces Principles of Righteousness OR excellence. The ART handmade manger scenes to it is to look at it and think while your looking at it–IN SIGHT–IN MIND. The Science of the manger scene will prove itself. Will the scene motivate one to go to a church of their choice Christmas day when they never went any other time? What better thing could our White House erect during Christmas? Our forefathers would have errected the biggest manger scene for the public to walk by and look at in hopes that they would realize that the Laws of our land stands for Supreme Righteousness.

Ignorance concerning our forefathers WAYS of setting up our government has done no justice for America. Wew need to be educated. Let me bore some with a little wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

As I explained to others through my other article that I wrote, Thomas Jefferson said that the free exercise of religion is INDEPENDENT of the POWERS of general government. He said, I have left it as the constitution PLACED them under the Direction and Discipline of state or church AUTHORITIES ACKNOWLEDGED BY the several religious societies. Were the state authorities really church authorities that the several religious societies ACKNOWLEDGED to be capable of ministering a Just law?

Now let me show you how there is only One kingdom set up. Religion is INDEPENDENT.

In the beginning of our States governments there were rules governing who could be a Representative for general government.
Look at this Constitution of North Carolina December 18, 1776. It states under article XXXII That NO PERSON, who shall deny the being of God or the truth of the Protestant religion, OR the Divine Authority either of the Old Testament or the New Testaments, or who shall hold Religious Principles incompatible with the freedom of State, shall be capable of holding any office or place of TRUST or PROFIT in the civil department of this state.

Now look at that closely Ben and then go up to where it says under the Direction or Disclipline of state OR church authorities ACKNOWLEDGED BY the several religious societies. The churches ordained these men to represent them in general government only.

These representatives who took this oath of office were ORDAINED by the churches to have authority in the direction and discipline of how their states general government would be run. Our forefathers made sure that their Representatives were God fearing people and the several religious societies ACKNOWLEDGED that these people were Godly trying to form a holy nation. Churches keep records don’t they? They know who is faithful and they know who is not.

These representatives were to keep watch or guard this righteous kingdom from the enemies, foreign or domestic, from ever entering into this heavenly atmosphere or intended kingdom or country that we live in. Ignorance has taken over knowledge.

These oaths of office should have never been allowed to change. If we want a godly nation we must have godly men and women as our leaders who can once again prove that religion is a Science of motivation. Put the ART up–erect the manger scenes–erect the crosses–erect the Ten Commandments—put prayer back in schools and the publics ear–take away the advertising of homosexuality–take all nudity and sexual behavior away from our eyes and ears–stop killing innocent babies that are produced because of ignorance and lets see what Science will produce then.

Where are the GODLY REPRESENTATIVES??? Are there any out there????? Well we are the ones who vote them in. It is all left up to us to prove that there is a Science to motivation. Let US get motivated to elect Godly people to run our Godly country. Amen!

  3. Linda Templet says:

There is a saying something like this–Think not what your country can do for you–but What can you do for your country.

I did this for my country yesterday. I sent this letter to Congressman Randy Forbes–it reads:

Congressman Forbes doesn’t have time to keep focused on ‘Congress shall make no law respecting an estsblishment of religion’ but I have. I work day and night with no pay. The Bible speaks of the seamstress–thats me!! I’m trying to sew together all these pieces of the garment of righteousness that our United States of Americas representaves are suppose to be wearing! I have to make this garment one size fits all.

Constitution–Section 8 Congress shall have Powers to PROMOTE the progress of Science and USEFUL ARTS, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive rights to their respective writtings and discoveries.

Now there is a science to religion–that science in seeing and hearing produces conscience motivation and all the useful ARTS that religion uses, such as a manger scene or a standing cross or even the religious ART and the WRITINGS hanging on the walls of our general governments buildings help with the progress of Science and useful ARTS.

The science of taking all things pertaining to religion out of sight–out of mind in our general government produces no motivation for our representatives in the general government to do good and right. There is an art and science to this word called religion. The ART of In sight–In mind produces much motivation to do good and right for our general government. I’m here to prove that Science of religion. Just look at me. I am so motivated every single day to get religion, righteous judgment, back into the publics eyes and ears. Congress should be using their POWER that the 8th section of the Constitution placed there for them to PROMOTE this in sight–in mind motivation especially on government owned property. This motivation costs the taxpayers nothing. Religion is INDEPENDENT of the Powers of the general government but religion DEPENDS on Congress to PROMOTE the progress of Science and USEFUL ARTS. In sight–in mind–righteous motivation!

God Bless–the Spirit of Jesus is coming Sarah–he is breaking through the the thick dark clouds of ignorance. Soon we are going to see the light of understanding.

    Linda Templet

The book of Daniel talks about the writtings on the wall–I can intrepret the meaning to that. In sight–In Mind.
