Dear President Obama:
Since our Country’s founding, the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces have given their all to protect our rights and freedoms as Americans. These individuals have sacrificed time with their families, advancement of their civilian careers and, all too often, death or serious injury to secure, as the Declaration of Independence put it, our “unalienable Rights”.
Unfortunately, because of rules and regulations being promulgated during your administration, these brave, selfless individuals are themselves losing the very liberty they are sworn to protect. Like any American, each member of the military has the right to hold whatever religious beliefs he or she chooses and also has the right to share those beliefs and not be forced to hide them as if committing a criminal act. Based on recent media reports and admissions from your administration, the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States Armed Forces are forced to do just that, especially if he or she is a confessing Christian.
Sir, as Commander and Chief, you have a an obligation to defend the Constitution of the United States and you should start fulfilling that duty immediately by correcting Department of Defense policies which infringe upon the free exercise of religious beliefs among all groups, but particularly among Christian service members.
I have attached my name to this petition because I believe that if we do not protect religious liberty for those very people who are sworn to fight for it, that same liberty will eventually perish for me as well.
